The romantic drama manga 'A Sign of Affection' tells the story of a deaf woman who falls in love with a polyglot. It is written and illustrated by Suu Morishita with Kodansha publishing it in Japan since 2019 and later in the United States. The Japanese animation studio Ajia-do Animation Works announced that they would be adapting the series into an anime in 2024.
"A Sign of Affection (Yugisaki to Renren) will soon be breaking down the walls between mediums as well as languages, as a TV anime adaptation of Su Morishita's slice-of-romance manga about a deaf girl and a polyglot was just announced. A teaser trailer and visual were unveiled, along with cast and staff details for January 2024 premiere," Crunchyroll said on their website.
Yūta Murano has been tapped to work as the director, Yōko Yonaiyama will be the screenwriter, and composer Yukari Hashimoto will compose the music for the series. Two cast members have been announced as well. Sumire Morohoshi (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Tokyo Ghoul) will voice protagonist Yuki Itose while the character of Itsuomi Nagi will be voiced by Yū Miyazaki (Gundam Build Divers Re:Rise, Little Witch Academia).

Anilist describes the synopsis as follows,
"Yuki is a typical college student, whose world revolves around her friends, social media, and the latest sales. But when a chance encounter on a train leads to her meeting friend-of-a-friend and fellow student Itsuomi-san, her world starts to widen. But even though Itsuomi-kun can speak three languages, sign language isn’t one of them. Can the two learn to communicate the budding feelings between them?"
Honda Theater in Tokyo ran a musical adaption of the manga in Summer 2021. It was directed by Maiko Tanaka, written by Sanae Iijima, composed by Kiyoko Ogino, and choreographed by Kiyomi Maeda. It starred Erika Toyohara as Yuki and Takahisa Maeyama as Itsuomi.
